I'm Paul Boone, Founder and Director of NuWell Energy Inc. Our goal is to pioneer large-bore wellbore containment technology to help enable the next generation of energy, specifically nuclear power and hydrogen. My background is mechanical engineering with a minor in mechatronics, and I’ve worked for the last 13 years as a Wells engineer with roles covering drilling, completion, intervention and abandonment which gives me the “know-how” to repurpose a $50 bn global drilling market. When observing trends in the nuclear industry, I realized that the latest generation of nuclear reactors for SMRs and micro-reactors were getting smaller and could eventually fit downhole in a wellbore. In 2021, I started to study the size and configuration for this deployment method. Recently, I was awarded my Masters in Well Engineering and Design where my dissertation focused on the design of large bore wells (4 ft – 20 ft diameter) for energy storage. By combining this containment solution to reduce the construction costs for nuclear power generation and energy storage, and improving the drilling and completion efficiency to create large-bore wells, we can revolutionize the energy industry by reducing the cost to deploy nuclear power and integrate it with renewables.
