Rethinking Nuclear Containment

The single largest cost barrier to nuclear power isn't the reactor — it's the containment structure.

NuWells replaces massive above-ground concrete domes with engineered large-diameter wellbores, using natural geology as a shield.

The result: clean, reliable energy that is safer, faster to build, and dramatically smaller at the surface.

Why NuWells?

Lower Cost

Built-in Safety

Built-in Safety

Standardized well designs enable repeatable drilling and construction. Multi-well pads share infrastructure, reducing project costs and uncertainty.

Underground placement provides geologic shielding and passive heat dissipation, with reduced exposure to surface hazards and external threats.

Smaller Footprint

Smaller Footprint

Smaller Footprint

A NuWells facility can have up to an 80× smaller surface footprint than a traditional SMR facility — small enough to sit beside the industrial sites and communities that need the energy.

Faster Deployment

Smaller Footprint

Smaller Footprint

Drilling the containment structure while the reactor is built in a factory enables parallel construction, with the potential to cut deployment timelines from roughly a decade to under three years.

Our Technology Explained

A NuWell is a large-diameter wellbore engineered to serve as an underground containment structure — 4 to 20 feet across, drilled 1,000 to 4,000 feet deep into competent rock.

A single well can host reactor modules delivering 10–200 MW of power. The reactor fuel sits far below ground and is behind multiple engineered barriers, while the surface facility is built to standard, non-nuclear industrial specifications.
